Hardscape in Hilton Head Island

Built for Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head Island is where Palm Shore Hardscapes & Design's most detailed work happens. Between the island's gated plantations, its Architectural Review Boards, and full coastal exposure, every pool deck, patio, and outdoor kitchen here has to be designed for salt, sun, and scrutiny. We've built for homeowners across Sea Pines, Palmetto Dunes, and Hilton Head Plantation, and we know what each community expects before the first drawing is submitted.

Local Knowledge

What to Know About Hardscape in Hilton Head Island

  1. 01

Every major Hilton Head community operates its own Architectural Review Board, and the Town of Hilton Head Island adds a second layer with its Land Management Ordinance — tree protection, setbacks, and impervious surface limits all apply to hardscape. We handle the drawings and specifications for both, and we know which communities require material samples, which require a survey, and how long each typically takes to approve.

  2. 02

The island is a barrier island: sandy soil, high water table, and salt air on every surface. Base preparation is non-negotiable here. Every Palm Shore deck is built on excavated, compacted aggregate with geotextile fabric and drainage designed to handle both a summer thunderstorm and a tropical system. Coping and joints are sealed for salt exposure from day one.

  3. 03

Travertine dominates Hilton Head pool decks for good reason — it stays cool in August, it's naturally slip-resistant, and it reads as the stone it is. For contemporary homes on the south end, large-format porcelain pavers are increasingly requested. We install both, along with concrete pavers for full-scale renovations of older plantation-era decks.

  4. 04

Access on the island runs through each community's security gate. We coordinate passes and scheduling so your project doesn't stall at the entrance. Our crews cross the bridge from Bluffton daily, and we schedule Okatie and island work on the same routes.

“Palm Shore is an outstanding company!! Miguel is excellent and he’s got a great crew. He has a lot of vision. Did a wonderful job with my paper patio and then helped me with a trashcan pad with the pavers that were left over!! He is Very customer-oriented, very polished and polite, and he and his crew are extremely hardworking. They did an outstanding job in a very short period of time. The garbage can pad was a bit of a challenge, but they worked through it and were only focused on doing the best job, and they did an outstanding job!!! I would highly recommend this company. You won’t be disappointed!!!”

Pool decks on Hilton Head Island run $15 to $100+ per square foot, installed. Most of the decks we build in Sea Pines, Port Royal Plantation, Hilton Head Plantation and Indigo Run are travertine, marble or porcelain, which sits in the upper part of that range. A 600 sq ft deck lands roughly between $9,000 and $60,000+, with ARB drawings, permits and gate access handled as part of the project.

Paver patios on Hilton Head run $15 to $100+ per square foot. A concrete-paver patio on open ground lands near the low end; an oceanfront or plantation-home patio in natural stone with walls, steps and drainage lands near the high end. You get a fixed written price after a free site visit.

We've completed pool decks and patios in Sea Pines, Port Royal Plantation, Hilton Head Plantation and Indigo Run, and we build regularly across the island's other gated plantations. See them on our projects page.

Yes. We regularly build in Sea Pines, Palmetto Dunes, Hilton Head Plantation, Long Cove, and the island's other gated communities. We coordinate ARB submittals and gate access as part of every project.

Travertine, marble and porcelain pavers. Each handles salt air, UV, and heat without fading or getting hot underfoot, and none cracks the way a monolithic concrete deck does on sandy island soil.

Yes. Oceanfront lots can fall under state beachfront rules and the Town's setbacks, so we check the property's restrictions during the site visit and design within them.

Often, yes — the Town's Land Management Ordinance regulates impervious surface, setbacks, and tree impacts, and your community's ARB has its own review. We manage both as part of the project.

Our crews cross the US-278 bridges from our Bluffton shop every day, and we arrange gate passes with your community ahead of each work day.
