Hardscape Questions, Answered by the Crew That Builds It
Straight answers on pool decks, patios, outdoor kitchens, pricing, warranty, and ARB approvals across the Lowcountry.
Pool Decks
Palm Shore pool decks run $15 to $100+ per square foot, installed. Concrete pavers over a sound base sit at the low end; travertine, marble and porcelain with full demolition, new coping and drainage work sit at the high end. For example, a 600 sq ft pool deck lands roughly between $9,000 and $60,000+. After a free site visit you get a fixed written price that doesn't change once work begins.
Pool decks on Hilton Head Island run $15 to $100+ per square foot, installed. Most decks we build in Sea Pines, Palmetto Dunes, Hilton Head Plantation and the island's other communities are travertine, marble or porcelain, which sits in the upper part of that range. ARB drawings, permits and gate access are handled as part of the project, and you get a fixed written price after a free site visit.
Travertine and porcelain pavers. Both stay cool underfoot in August, handle salt air and UV without fading, and are naturally slip-resistant when wet. Travertine reads as natural stone; porcelain is the lower-maintenance choice because it never needs sealing.
Yes, if the slab is sound. We inspect for cracks, settlement, and drainage first. A stable slab can be overlaid with pavers and new coping; a failing slab is removed and rebuilt on a compacted aggregate base. Overlays are the most common pool deck project in Okatie and Sun City.
Most pool deck renovations take two to four weeks once materials arrive, including demo, base preparation, paver installation, coping, and sealing. ARB or HOA approval happens before that window and can add a few weeks up front.
Both fall in our $15 to $100+ per square foot range. A paver overlay on a sound concrete slab skips demolition and usually lands lower; tearing out a failing deck, rebuilding the base and replacing the coping pushes the price higher. We inspect the slab at the site visit and price both options when both make sense.
Yes. Coping is usually replaced when the deck is renovated so the edge matches the new surface and the joint to the pool shell is properly sealed. We install bullnose, square-edge, and remnant-style coping in travertine, porcelain, and concrete.
Usually, yes. Concrete pavers sit at the lower end of our $15 to $100+ per square foot range, while travertine, marble and porcelain sit toward the upper end because the material costs more and takes more cutting and finishing. Many Lowcountry homeowners choose travertine anyway because it stays cooler underfoot and holds up to salt air.
Paver Patios
Paver patios run $15 to $100+ per square foot, installed. A simple concrete-paver patio on open, level ground sits at the low end; natural stone or porcelain with seating walls, steps, a fire pit, or removal of an old slab sits at the high end. A 400 sq ft patio works out to roughly $6,000 to $40,000+. We give you a fixed price after a free site visit.
Yes. That is the most common request in Hardeeville and Bluffton's newer communities. We extend the footprint on a new compacted base and either overlay the original slab or remove it so the whole patio is one continuous surface.
Excavated, compacted aggregate with drainage engineered for the site. Lowcountry soil is sandy with a high water table, so the base and grading are what keep a paver surface flat a decade later. Every Palm Shore patio uses this construction regardless of material.
Yes. Seating walls, fire pits, and gas fire features are designed into the patio layout rather than added afterward, so the wall height, joint pattern, and gas or electrical runs are planned before the base goes in.
Not if the base is built correctly. Pavers shift when they are laid on thin base or uncompacted fill. Palm Shore patios are built on compacted aggregate with edge restraint, and every one carries a one-year structural and cosmetic warranty.
Outdoor Kitchens
Outdoor kitchens are priced as a complete project rather than per square foot, because the appliances, counters, and gas, electrical and water runs make up much of the cost. The patio or pool deck around the kitchen follows our $15 to $100+ per square foot hardscape pricing. After a free site visit you get one fixed price for the kitchen and the hardscape together.
Palm Shore outdoor kitchens are site-built in masonry — block and stone or stucco — with granite or quartzite counters and coastal-grade stainless appliances. Gas, electrical, and water are roughed in during the hardscape phase so the kitchen is integrated with the patio or pool deck, not set on top of it.
Granite or quartzite. Both handle heat, salt air, and UV without staining or fading. We avoid quartz outdoors because it can discolor in direct sun.
We coordinate the gas, electrical, and water rough-ins with licensed trades as part of the project and build the masonry around them. Homeowners do not need to hire separate trades for the utilities.
Yes, though it is easier and cleaner to plan it with the patio. On an existing patio we cut in the utility runs, build the masonry structure on its own footing, and tie the surfaces together so the kitchen looks original to the space.
In most Lowcountry gated communities, yes. Outdoor kitchens change the visible footprint and often add a roof or pergola, which review boards want to see. Palm Shore prepares the drawings and specifications the board requires.
Our Process
We walk the property with you, measure, look at drainage and access, and talk through what you want the space to become. From that visit we produce a scaled layout, material selections, and a fixed-price quote. Site visits are free.
Site visits are usually scheduled within a few days. Start dates depend on the season and on any ARB or HOA approval your community requires; spring and early summer book fastest. We give you a start date when you approve the quote.
The same Palm Shore crew from start to finish, led by the person who did your site visit. Utility trades for gas and electrical are coordinated by us.
Yes. Permits run through the Town of Bluffton, Town of Hilton Head Island, City of Beaufort, Hardeeville, Ridgeland, or the county depending on the address. We handle the application as part of the project.
We walk every surface with you, confirm joints, coping, drainage, and finishes, explain sealing and maintenance, and start your one-year warranty from that date.
Pricing & Warranty
Palm Shore hardscape projects run $15 to $100+ per square foot across pool decks, paver patios, walkways and driveways in Bluffton, Hilton Head Island, Okatie, Beaufort, Hardeeville and Ridgeland. Where your project lands depends on the material, the size, any demolition, the base and drainage work, and features like coping, walls and fire pits. Every project starts with a free site visit and a fixed written quote.
Five things move the price: the material (concrete pavers versus travertine, marble or porcelain), whether an old deck or slab has to come out, how much base and drainage work the site needs, features like coping, steps, seating walls and fire pits, and access to the yard. A simple open patio sits near $15 per square foot; a full pool deck renovation in premium stone sits at $100+.
At $15 to $100+ per square foot, a 500 sq ft project runs roughly $7,500 to $50,000+. Concrete pavers on a level, open site land near the bottom of that range; travertine, marble or porcelain with demolition, new coping and drainage work land near the top. Your exact number comes from a free site visit and a fixed written quote.
No. After the free site visit you receive a fixed written price for the scope, materials and features we agreed on, and it doesn't change once work begins. The only time a price moves is if you ask us to add to or change the project, and we put that in writing before doing the work.
One year of structural and cosmetic coverage on every pool deck, patio, and outdoor kitchen we build — the base and structure, and the finish you see. If something isn't right, we come back and make it right. Full terms are on our Warranty page.
Ask us during the site visit. Financing options change; we will tell you what is currently available and what the terms are.
Call (843) 338-7417 or email miguel@palmshorehardscapes.com with a photo of the issue. We schedule an inspection, confirm coverage, and schedule the repair. Portal customers can also submit a claim with photos from the Warranty tab in their portal.
Yes. A deposit is collected when the contract is signed to schedule the crew and order materials; the balance schedule is written into the contract. Details are confirmed in your quote.

In most planned communities, yes. Architectural Review Boards typically review hardscape changes for footprint, materials, and drainage. Palm Shore prepares the site plan, material samples, and specifications your board requires and submits them for you.
Often. The Town of Hilton Head Island's Land Management Ordinance regulates impervious surface, setbacks, and tree protection, and many hardscape projects fall under it. We handle the drawings and the application.
No. Beaufort, Lady's Island, and Port Royal are inside our regular service area, and we schedule site visits there the same week as anywhere else.
